DIY CONCEALING POWDER FOUNDATION, CONCEALER & HIGHLIGHTER FOR OILY SKIN

          OIL ABSORBING LOOSE POWDER

The body is made up of numerous sweat glands that releases liquid during hot weather conditions and if you are observant, you would have taken note that from the neck up the face contains many oil glands during this weather.
  When you purchase an oil absorbing powder from a store, it can contain several ingredients like(clay, baking soda,talc, ground oats etc) meant to help absorb excess oil, but today, will be sharing a regimen you can try on your own.

  • 1/4 cup of arrow-root powder or cornstarch
  • 2 tsp spice for color(cinnamon, instant coffee or cocoa powder works well)
  • 10 drops of any of your favorite essential oil(tea tree, lavender or rosemary)
Whisk all of the dry ingredients together excluding the spice, while whisking, begin to add the spice in little quantity till you get the desired shade of your choice, then add your favorite essential oil(adjusting it to your liking).
You can hence make this into a face powder with sunscreen by adding zinc oxide (this is zinc that has been oxidized by heating & cooling after vaporization, the result from this is a white powder  that mixes well in make-up & is not harmful).

N.B-You might not get this at your first trial!

CONCEALER & HIGHLIGHTER

Home made base lotion for concealer includes ingredients like;
  • Shea butter
  • witch hazel
  • Argan oil
  • Aloe vera gel
  • vegetable based emulsifying wax
Ingredients for color & coverage include;
  • kaotin clay, earth clay or bentonite clay
  • zinc oxide powder
  • organic cocoa powder
If you prefer the pre-made lotion instead of the base lotion, use natural & non-camedogenic lotion as base then add the coloring & mineral to get your preferred shade, i.e
  • Shea moisture agent
  • chamomile healing lotion
  • Shea moisture olive oil & marula lotion
For the natural concealer, you will need;
  • 2 tsp argan oil or Jojoba oil
  • 1/2 tsp emulsifying wax
  • 1 tsp Shea butter
  • 1 tsp aloe vera gel
  • 1 tsp witch hazel
Heat the Shea butter, Argan oil & emulsifying wax in a double boiler until completely melted, add aloe gel & witch hazel, then wait till completely smooth & incorporated, turn off heat & add your zinc and clay( if using), add cocoa powder a pinch at a time till you get desired color( which should be lighter than your skin tone) so it blends & lightens. Drop the tip of a spoon into the mixture & let it cool off a bit, then test the color & coverage on your forehead & inner arm to make sure you have achieved the right tone/shade for your skin then spoon out mixture into a desired container & let it cool.

N.B : more zinc oxide results more coverage, while less zinc results thinner coverage, hence better for highlighting. For dark skin tones, not as much.
