Hello guys, did you know that knowing your hair porosity level can help you tame your mane?
HAIR POROSITY;
Do you ever feel like your hair doesn't absorb moisture after you moisturize, or you moisturize your hair and suddenly it feels dry? Yea, me too, i had the same problem until i learnt about my hair porosity.
Porosity refers to how well moisture penetrates the cuticle layer of the hair shaft which determines how easily oils and moisture passes in and out of your hair.
In normal hair porosity the cuticle scales overlaps but allows some moisture to penetrate the hair while in compact hair, the cuticle layer has tightly overlapped scales and repels moisture and in porous hair the cuticle scales are raised and moisture passes easily in and out of the hair shaft.
There are factors that affects the hair porosity, Genetic factor or external factors which may include the use of chemicals, heat products and excessive exposure.
Knowing your hair porosity can help you choose the right products to keep your hair healthy, shiny, moisturized and supple.
The three porosity levels are; the low porosity
the normal or medium porosity
the high porosity
How to know your hair porosity
This step is what i call home chemistry because this helps me re-arrange my hair care routine.
follow these steps;
Step 1; take a dormant strand of your hair either from your comb or hair brush
Step 2; put it in a cup of lukewarm water,
Step 3;then take a close look at it to see how long it takes to sink.
