Applying foundation, highlights and contour to dark skin can be very tricky in some way, based on the type of skin we have (Oily, Dry or Combination skin).
If you have an Oily skin, i will advice you stick to matte formulas in order to keep your skin from looking like an Oil factory....LOL!
Formulas like L'Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Matte Finish Foundation is what i will encourage you use as it will help reduce excess oil & sweat. You should also use a Primer before apply your foundation by using a synthetic brush instead of your fingers to avoid transferring bacteria from your fingers to your face and back to your product and setting powders like Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder in 'DARK OR DEEP' to match your skin tone for a flawless finish.
For Dry skin, you should exfoliate your face weekly in order to keep all dead skin cells from sitting on your face, Sleek Cosmetics' Scrub Away My Troubles' is a product i will recommend for a deep clean, also endeavor to wash, exfoliate and moisturize your face as often as possible. Avoid using Matte foundation, they will only make your skin look drier, go for a creamy formula that will keep your skin fresh, like Mac Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Plush Foundation. Apply your foundation with a damp Sponge/Beauty blender, You should use a face primer/moisturizer also before your foundation to help lock hydration into your skin and blend foundations properly by dabbing. Avoid sleeping on a cotton pillow case as this will suck your skin dry and we don't want that, so go for a silk fabric instead.
For Combination skin, the secret to having a perfect glow is finding what works best for you, whether stick, cream or powder, find what suits your skin best. Always go for products with SPF like the Bobby Brown Skin Foundation Stick.
Once you know your skin types and how to apply foundation to it, next thing is to go for Earth tones like the green and browns for your contouring/highlighting in order to hide breakouts or hyperpigmentation. Mild Eye-shadow colors to match your outfit and a nude lippie or gloss always come in handy as they keep the lips well moisturized.
HAPPY VALENTINE I LOVE YOU ALL!
