HARMATTAN SEASON KNOCKS

Ways to maintain your hair strands this season-

The harmattan season is one of the most dreaded season for everyone due to its result in giving us dry skin, dry hair, cracked lips etc which could be very annoying, but the good thing is if we know how to maintain our hair & skin this season, we wouldn't have any problem.

Did you know that hair grows faster in heat season?

With the harmattan season here, we will have to make a few changes in our routine & regimen in order to protect/guard your strands. Here are a few useful tips;
  • MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • More CO-wash less shampooing
  • Change of sealants to heavy oils/butter
  • Increase in Deep-conditioning
  • Incorporate oil rinse
  • Hot oil treatment
  • PROTECTIVE STYLING
  • Hydration( drink more water)
  • Satin pillowcases, head warmers, silk scarves.
It is important to keep your hair moisturized this season as moisture is the buzz word for 'harmattizing', last week, i gave a few hints to co-washing, you will need to incorporate it this season as it will help level the moisture in your hair and prevent your strands from being stripped off its moisture. If your regular sealants are not heavy, you will need to change to something heavier like CASTOR OIL, MANGO BUTTER, SHEA BUTTER, AVOCADO BUTTER etc. this will help create a great barrier and prevent moisture from  evaporating from the hair shaft, and also prevent split ends, breakage caused by dryness.
This season is no season to skip your weekly DC, you need to do this treatment by sitting under a steamer for 30 minutes so the heat can lift the cuticles and allow the conditioner penetrate and give your hair more benefits.
Oil rinses and hot oil treatment enhances shine, moisture retention & helps combat dryness and breakage, it also help reduce frizziness.
Protective styling is advisable  this season in order to combat dust, dryness and breakage that comes with the harmattan, note that, you need to cleanse your hair by doing a DC few days before & ensure that your hair is properly moisturized & sealed prior to having your PS, also, do not abandon your hair when on a PS, endeavor to keep hair moisturized, spritz daily/as often as possible.
For the MEN, head warmers not be such a bad idea this season as it helps prevent dust from getting to the hair.
 DRINK A LOT OF WATER this season, it is very important, also stay away from too much sugar & eat right.
